Venkatesh Hariharan

Bio

Venky is an established IT professional who, over a 32-year career, has dedicated himself to the transformation of the technology landscape. Starting his career in journalism, he gradually transitioned to roles that have allowed him to pioneer and democratize access to technology. He served as the Director of Fintech at iSPIRT, during which time he worked with India’s largest banks to integrate components such as the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) of IndiaStack.

Currently, Venky holds a dual role as the Public Policy Director for FOSS United, an organization dedicated to expanding the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) ecosystem in India, and as India's representative for the Open Invention Network (OIN). Furthermore, he continues to research and evangelize Digital Public Goods. As a member of the Think Tank 20 Working Group on DPI, his recommendations contribute significantly to the G20 Working Groups.

In the past, his roles have spanned organizations such as Google, Indian Express, Red Hat, and the Data Governance Network. Throughout, his focus has been policy work on open source, open standards, software patents, Internet free speech, and privacy.

Beyond his practical work, Venky has maintained a strong interest in making technology and knowledge more accessible and democratic, building a legacy that has impacted numerous organizations and initiatives.
