Announcing the Launch of the Digital Principles Forum

By Uncategorized

Today, Tuesday, October 10, the Digital Impact Alliance – steward of the Principles for Digital Development – will launch the new Digital Principles Forum. Link here: forum.digitalprinciples.org

The Digital Principles Forum will be an online meeting place for knowledge exchange, peer learning, connection building, and debating the Digital Principles and the broader ICT4D community of practice. We envision this new space being more than a listserv – it will be an actively moderated online community where your questions can be answered by fellow practitioners and where digital development colleagues will enjoy engaging.

Most importantly, we aim to build a space that connects ICT4D, information technology, and international aid and humanitarian development practitioners with thoughtful curated content, relevant conversation and quality opportunities to improve their work.

The new forum builds on a legacy email listserv, established in 2014, dedicated to the development, consultation, and rollout of the Principles for Digital Development. Our new forum, built on the open-source platform Discourse, will be launched in tandem with a brand new Digital Principles website that will contain extensively updated practical guidance for practitioners.

Over the next few months, we will be rolling out new content and features to support the community, but to get started, here’s a few reasons why we are excited specifically about the forum:

  • The new forum enables more specialized conversations, with smart ways of tagging, liking, and asking specific people questions without having to email the whole group
  • It will support voting, rich search, and emoji use
  • The mobile experience is an enormous improvement – and an increasing percentage of our users
  • You will only receive email updates to channels and conversations you subscribe to – meaning no spam

Registration is easy!

  1. Click on the ‘Sign Up’ button in the upper right hand corner of the homepage
  2. Pick your username and password and you will be in

The Digital Principles team would like to thank Michael Downey and David McCann at DIAL who were instrumental in the content migration from our legacy Google Group, and Yaw Anokwa of Union Hosting, who wrote the migration script and walked us through his own experience, step by step. We owe all three our gratitude.
